Proposal 1: Enhancing Community Coordination through Eden Fractal Cagendas

Building on Eden Fractal's pioneering work with Cagendas over the past two years, combined with our recent refinements through Optimism Town Hall implementation, I propose implementing Cagendas at bi-weekly Eden Fractal events. This builds naturally on our upcoming ORDAO deployment planned for January.
Cagendas would operate similarly to our current implementation at Optimism Town Hall, where community members use their Respect tokens to vote on discussion topics. Anyone can propose topics, and the community democratically determines priorities through snapshot voting. While Optimism Town Hall focuses on Superchain-related discussions, Eden Fractal Cagendas would enable the community to propose topics relevant to growing the fractal ecosystem - including funding discussions, technical development coordination, and various Respect Game formats.
The key difference in implementation would be the timing structure. Rather than choosing topics on Monday like we do at Optimism Town Hall, Eden Fractal Cagendas would resolve voting on Fridays at 17 UTC. This provides an eight-day window for topic proposals and six days of preparation time between topic selection and events. The extended preparation window enables more thoughtful topic development and discussion preparation.
This implementation requires minimal technical infrastructure - primarily creating a snapshot space where Eden Fractal Respect token holders from Epoch One can vote. As soon as possible, we should figure out a way that community members can vote on topics with Optimism Fractal Respect (OPF) at Eden Fractal as well. We can gather community feedback on this proposal and implement if there's support once ORDAO is deployed for Eden Fractal. No formal consensus process is required, but community guidance will help ensure we're best serving ecosystem needs.
Implementation Framework
The proposal establishes three key differences from our current Optimism Town Hall implementation:
- Participation Framework Initial implementation enables Eden Fractal Respect holders from Epoch One to vote through Snapshot, with clear pathways for expanding participation to include:
- Optimism Fractal (OPF) holders as soon as technically feasible
- Additional fractal communities based on demonstrated engagement
- Cross-chain verification mechanisms for broader ecosystem integration
This measured approach balances immediate operational needs with long-term aspirations for ecosystem-wide coordination.
Strategic Benefits
- Maintains Simplicity: While Enabling Focus Rather than implementing a complex seven-week cycle, we preserve our proven bi-weekly cadence that has received excellent feedback from over 100 participants. This allows both regular contributors and occasional participants to easily predict and engage with events while creating dedicated space for focused deliberation on critical topics.
- Natural Development Cycle Integration: Bi-weekly Eden Fractal events create regular opportunities for testing new features with a community that understands these tools are evolving. This provides more frequent testing cycles than Tadas' proposed monthly schedule, allowing incremental improvement while preserving Optimism Fractal's stability for broader ecosystem engagement.
- Democratic Coordination of Strategic Priorities: Cagendas provides a structured environment where anyone can propose funding strategies or other critical topics, with community voting determining priorities. This directly addresses Tadas' point about the need for focused deliberation while maintaining democratic principles. Several community members, including Will and Patrick, have expressed interest in contributing to funding discussions. Cagendas would provide a flexible mechanism to coordinate about specific topics that are of most interest to the community
- Flexible Experimentation with Respect Game Variations: The community can propose different game prompts or discussion formats based on current needs. This could include focused prompts about funding contributions, broader prompts about growing the fractal ecosystem, or experimental formats that help refine our coordination tools. This flexibility enables testing of new features while maintaining consistent community engagement.
- Dual Deliberation Spaces: Combined with Optimism Town Hall's existing Cagendas implementation, this creates two complementary spaces for structured community discussion - one focused on Superchain development and another on fractal ecosystem growth. This separation helps maintain focus while maximizing opportunities for coordination.
- Refinement of Cagendas: Implementation at Eden Fractal provides another venue for testing and improving Cagendas itself - one of our core coordination tools. Regular usage helps identify improvements and new use cases while demonstrating the tool's value for community coordination.
Future Evolution: Expanding Ecosystem Participation
While initially implementing Cagendas at Eden Fractal requires minimal technical development beyond our planned ORDAO deployment, expanding participation to include Respect earned across the fractal ecosystem would create transformative opportunities for coordination and growth. This evolution would strengthen connections between fractal communities while enriching discussions through diverse perspectives and experiences. Outside of implementing Cagendas at Eden Fractal, the first priority should be to enable OPF holders to vote on topics in Eden Fractal Cagendas games.
Creating Value Through Broader Participation
Expanding Cagendas voting power beyond Eden Fractal Respect creates several compelling benefits for ecosystem development. First, it provides a dedicated space where anyone who has contributed to fractal innovation can help guide strategic direction. Community members who have earned Respect through different implementations bring unique insights from their experiences - whether developing tools, growing communities, or refining governance processes.
This diversity of perspective leads to richer deliberation and more comprehensive solutions. For example, participants from Optimism Fractal can share learnings about scaling community engagement, while Genesis Fractal members offer deep expertise in fractal governance patterns. By bringing together leaders from various communities, we create an environment where innovative ideas naturally emerge and evolve.
Furthermore, expanded participation helps activate currently dormant value in the ecosystem. Many community members have earned Respect through meaningful contributions but may have limited ongoing engagement. Creating opportunities for these experienced builders to shape strategic direction helps strengthen connections across the ecosystem while benefiting from their accumulated wisdom.
Technical Integration Considerations
Given their demonstrated impact towards to advancing fractal decision-making processes, Optimism Fractal and Genesis Fractal represent natural initial partners for expanded participation. Optimism Fractal has grown a vibrant community pioneering these tools on Ethereum, while Genesis Fractal brought together many early innovators who helped establish core patterns. However, the framework should remain open to including other communities like ZAO Fractal or communities on the Respect.Games app as they demonstrate sustained engagement and grow in the fractal ecosystem.
Expanding participation requires thoughtful development of supporting infrastructure:
- The first technical consideration is cross-chain verification of Respect tokens. This involves creating secure bridges between networks like Base and Optimism to enable accurate token balance verification within snapshot voting. The snapshot interface provides flexible strategies for reading token balances across chains while maintaining voting integrity.
- Balanced representation across communities requires careful design of voting weight strategies. Snapshot's customizable voting frameworks allow us to implement weighting formulas that consider different Respect earning opportunities across implementations. Clear documentation of these mechanisms helps maintain transparency and trust.
This measured approach to expanding participation provides practical experience in cross-community coordination while laying groundwork for more sophisticated integration through the higher-order fractal concept. By starting with proven communities and carefully extending participation based on demonstrated commitment, we can build effective patterns for ecosystem-wide collaboration.
