Description
Eden Fractal Epoch 2 : Draft Text
I propose that we start the second Epoch of Eden Fractal on August 14th, following a following week spring break. The second epoch will have a few unique features that are different than current status:
- Biweekly events (until a decision is made otherwise based upon demand)
- Start Respect Games on Base to achieve our mission as soon as it is technically feasible and fitting to do so
- Consider creating a space for different discussions at Cagendas at Eden Fractal during another event called Eden Town Hall, based upon demand
- Position the community to achieve its mission and actualize it’s vision
Hi all!
With the tools nearly ready but needing a lot of focus on building and opportunities like retrofunding round 6 around the corner, I believe that the Optimystics team needs to focus more on
We need to focus more on growing Optimism Fractal in this upcoming season to make it as successful as possible and take some breaks to help everyone enjoy the summer
I’m suggesting that we take a 4 week summer break from Eden Fractal with the last event of this season on the 10th and return for the next season on a biweekly schedule
Im also proposing that Optimism Fractal takes a two week summer break starting on the 25th.
Switching to a biweekly schedule will also allow builders in the community to join Optimism Foundation Office Hours (link) every other Wednesday
We want to make sure that we provide collaborative support for anyone who’d like to implement fractal decision making processes and would like to make this kind of decision witn community input based upon demand, but feel we’ll be able to best do so by taking a longer break from the events and focusing more on development and preparation to attract more people to optimism fractal, where we have an opportunity to attract a huge amount of people to fractals on the worlds largest and fastest growing public network , but we need to really focus on it and seize the moment in the limited window of opportunity to make it as successful as possible and we need to strike while the iron is hot
This will allow more time for Optimystics and Eden creators to focus on other initiatives like building relationships, podcasts, grant funding opportunities , tool development , supporting shows, catching up on maintenance for Eden fractals , video clip production , targeted marketing , etc
Problems this will solve:
- Hosting and producing events takes a lot of time and energy. By switching to a biweekly schedule it will give us more time to focus on other needed aspects (like website improvement, personal outreach, technical development, grant applications, etc) that will ultimately better position us accomplish our mission,
- make each event more special and allow us to make it better. often in a rush and overworked doing eden fractal and optimism fractal and other projects. this will provide more sustainable schedule for optimystics team, which will result in better work and better events
- position eden fractal community well for retrofunding in optimism retrofunding (and season 6 mission initatives)
I propose that after the summer break we’ll return for the second epoch of Eden Fractal
Plan to start deploy the new fractal software on Base and start playing the Respect Game to measure the contributions towards our mission of implementing fractal decision-making processes throughout society.
This may include boostrapping a new community consensus mechanism based upon Respect earned at the events in Epoch 2. It will be a chance for a fresh start with a community that eats its own dogfood and uses fractal decision-making processes to make collective decisions. A key part of this is growing the community for Eden Fractal and attracting new participants. There have been over one hundred participants and over the past few months there have been maybe about ten new participants from optimism superchain ecosystem.
I greatly appreciate everyone’s support at the events and it’s been a huge pleasure collaborating with you all. We’ve accomplished so much together in this first two years- amazing anniversary events, building of tools on three networks, fostering countless collaborations, inspiring dozens of fractal communities and fractal leaders, hundred videos, hundred participants, many thousands of views, countless volunteer hours, mission, vision, website, sprouting optimism fractal, educational content, laughs and great times, carrying the torch of fractal democracy to create a better future for all etc.
That being said, in order to achieve our mission the community needs to grow and also attract new participants, builders, creators etc in addition to the amazing community who’s been with us so far. Fractals are designed to work with thousands of participants and our average attendance has decreased from about fifteen participants throughout the first year to about five participants over the past months. Optimism Fractal and the superchain provide onboarding opportunity to attract countless leaders to realize the benefits of fractal decision-making processes, but it will take some time for sufficient demand
In order for Eden Fractal to grow it needs to regenerate and be reborn into it’s next phase of development. Tadas wrote something similar about regenerative fractal here. Taking a break, reflecting on what is working best and what should be improved. Some of that means letting go of the past and some things that haven’t.
Our approach will be based on market demand, realistic and with close attentiveness to feedback
Planning to experiment with biweekly events instead of weekly events upon the return of Eden Fractal and then expand to weekly events when the time is right based upon demand and market opportunities. Need to focus on what will be most helpful to achieve the mission of Eden Fractal and whether we can best achieve that by focusing more on Optimism Fractal for the time being and serving as an example for fractals to follow.
Ultimately we’ll play it by ear to see what the community wants and where the greatest opportunities are to achieve our mission, while also doing so in a sustainable way with sufficient funding and creating opportunities for community members to build businesses around fractals. during the break will also work to tie up loose ends that haven’t had the attention needed, like the MSIG on EOS and following up with fractal leaders and sending respect. Also have some other ideas about continuing Cagendas and bringing back Eden Town Hall and many other exciting ideas for growth that we’ve discussed over the past couple years
This would be the end of an era for Eden Fractal and the beginning of a new paradigm in which we make major strides towards collaborative implementation of fractal decision-making processes throughout society, and achieving of vision of a world where all communities have the tools and methods for the best decision-making possible. Fair, fast, and fun.
I thought about this deeply and don’t take this decision lightly - maybe too much, but it’s true. Fractals are based on weekly events and eden fractal has an important role to play in leading by example. But some can do biweekly and sometimes leaders of fractals need to adjust based upon demand , market conditions and othe factors. Fractals can be flexible and work in a variety of environments and orientations, similar to adaptation in nature . Need to navigate uncertain situations well to provide best experiences possible
there is a lot of time required for Video production , event hosting , topic creation, event promotion to provide the experience of Eden fracfal
If there’s enough demand for in person meetings and group discussions , I could also host an Optimystics office hours where we discuss similar topics as Eden fractal but do so without the video production, promotion, and topic creation for events of Eden fractal . Feel free to
Optimystics office hours would also be good in that they provide a place for discussions that won’t be produced and publicly shared. This is valuable Role that Optimystics office hours could
Provide better than Eden fractal . Some people might not want to be so public or discuss something so structured like Eden fractal but instead want more private conversations and be able to ask what they want if they want to start a fractal or something
For example, If/when there is demand then I could host biweekly office hour at EF time and rosmari wouldn’t need to attend and we’d save many hours from promotion and production and topic creation
Let me know if this would be helpful
After operating on a biweekly schedule for some time and assessing demand, we intend to return Eden fractal to a weekly schedule and start playing the Respect game at weekly events to measure how much each participant contributes to the implementation of fractal decision making processes throughout society. During this time I also plan to pursue funding opportunities throughout the EVM ecosystem to provide funding to the builders and community leaders who implement fractal governance processes and report their progress at Eden fractal events
Ultimately I believe this will have the biggest impact for fractals and implementations of fractal decision making processes
If anyone needs support with fractals, you can still share a message in Eden fractal telegram, optimism fractal discord, or reach out more directly
Also excited to announce new changes to optimism fractal . Com, including
Pleased to announce that optimism fractal approved a proposal to update its core intents to … , which includes governance and the Superchain, which includes base et al. Also share this announcement in Fractally chat and FractalJoy .
Consider also sending this entire or part of this message in Fractally and FractalJoy chats. It’s very relevant for them as well.
I’d like to discuss this briefly at this weeks event meeting and am curious to hear your thoughts
Add the proposal/suggestions for summer break to the promotional message that rosmari sends out this week. Happy to hear your thoughts
Everyone is welcome to join last events of season and OF
Rationale
I’ve talked about how it makes sense to focus more on Eden fractal in the upcoming months because retrofunding is focused on governance and the tools will be ready shortly for respect game, but I think it’s best for take more time off from EF now any way . OF is now focused more on governance , and I think OF will be more successful when it has more of Optimystics attention. It would be a lot more difficult to reach critical mass of participation for network effects for OF when EF is taking half the light so to speak on the coming months. OF can make a bigger impact if it has more attention in the coming months , and if we have more time for related initiatives like base play interacting in Superchain and EVM ecosystems.
Eden fracfal has already largely served its purpose in making an impact for this retrofunding season round 6, and we’ll make a bigger impact by focusing more on OF. By taking a 4 week summer break and returning biweekly until further notice/proposal, we’ll support Eden fractal with the attention that it needs to continue and be prepare for its next stage of growth as more fractals sprout . This will also give more suport to optimsim fracfal, so it can become maximally successful in the Superchain and attract EVM builders and Serve as example for fractal growth for the development of an ecosystem (Outside of fractal ecosystem)
We’ll have an easier time to earn funding from round 6 when more energy and attention is focused on optimism fractal . Eden fracfal website and less frequent events will still support. But with just one event for week and more of our time to support it, we’ll be able to get to a larger critical mass of say 20 or 40 Weekly participants by September which will increase our odds of substantial funding
Eden fractal won’t have that much demand yet that optimsim fractal can’t help serve. In a few months I expect that there will be much more demand for EF as more people see OF succeed, but even with the new tools there won’t be that much demand for EF at this time. It willl take some months before that demand really increases much and during this time it’s better to focus more on OF
EF still needs some attention to grow and support. For example I thought about 6 week summer break for EF and am thinking that’s too much , but with 4 week plus biweekly then I think it’s a nice abalance . Then again… maybe a 5,6, and 8 week break could be ok. I think 8 weeks is most likely too long , but not totally sure. What’s the worst that would happen if we did a 6 week break instead of 4 weeks? If we do the Optimystics office hours for some of those then maybe that would Be better overall . This is worth considering . 4 weeks and biweekly is big reduction and very helpful , but 6 weeks or something could be helpful too and maybe Optimystics office hours would be worthy experiment . Summer breaks are often a few months long and Now might be the time to do it. Ask for feedback about this.
One other option that is worth considering is going to monthly events for some time. Perhaps this could Work beter then biweekly ?
Also Could do longer break like 6-8 weeks and not decide on biweekly yet but play it by ear?
Also with the great anniversary it will be good to leave videos page more impressive at the top then add too many new videos and events
I’ve talked about how we should continue to do Eden fractal at the same break as optimism fractal to keep it simple , but 4 week and 2 week is simple
This averaged out to 3 weeks while still providing consistency to optimism fractals schedule of 12 week season and 2 week break. It also provides opportunity for experimentation or break schedule
Vote yes on this proposal if you agree to start the third season of Optimism Fractal on May 9th, following a two week spring break.
Earlier draft
Introducing Epoch 2 of Eden Fractal
I propose that we start the second Epoch of Eden Fractal on August 14th, following a four-week summer break. The second epoch will have a few unique features that are different from the current status:
• Biweekly events (until a decision is made otherwise based on demand)
• Consider creating a space for different discussions at Cagendas at Eden Fractal during another event called Eden Town Hall, based on demand
• Position the community to achieve its mission and actualize its vision
With the tools nearly ready but needing a lot of focus on building, and opportunities like RetroFunding Round 6 around the corner, the Optimystics team needs to focus more on growing Optimism Fractal in this upcoming season. This includes taking breaks to help everyone enjoy the summer.
Summer Break Proposal
I’m suggesting that we take a 4-week summer break from Eden Fractal, with the last event of this season on July 10th and return for the next season on August 14th, on a biweekly schedule. Additionally, Optimism Fractal will take a two-week summer break starting on July 25th. Switching to a biweekly schedule will allow builders in the community to join Optimism Foundation Office Hours every other Wednesday.
Focus on Growth and Development
We aim to provide collaborative support for those implementing fractal decision-making processes. To do so, we need to take a longer break from events and focus more on development and preparation to attract more people to Optimism Fractal. This unique opportunity to attract many people to fractals on the world’s largest and fastest-growing public network must be seized now.
Benefits of the Break
1. Increased Focus: More time for Optimystics and Eden creators to focus on other initiatives like building relationships, podcasts, grant funding opportunities, tool development, supporting shows, catching up on maintenance for Eden Fractals, video clip production, targeted marketing, etc.
2. Energy and Resource Management: Hosting and producing events take a lot of time and energy. By switching to a biweekly schedule, it will give us more time to focus on other needed aspects (like website improvement, personal outreach, technical development, grant applications, etc.) that will ultimately better position us to accomplish our mission.
3. Enhanced Events: Making each event more special and allowing us to improve them. We are often rushed and overworked with Eden Fractal and Optimism Fractal and other projects. This will provide a more sustainable schedule for the Optimystics team, resulting in better work and events.
4. RetroFunding Positioning: Position the Eden Fractal community well for retrofunding in Optimism RetroFunding and Season 6 mission initiatives.
Post-Break Plans
After the summer break, we’ll return for the second epoch of Eden Fractal. We plan to deploy the new fractal software on Base and start playing the Respect Game to measure contributions towards our mission of implementing fractal decision-making processes throughout society.
This may include bootstrapping a new community consensus mechanism based on Respect earned at the events in Epoch 2. It will be a chance for a fresh start with a community that uses fractal decision-making processes to make collective decisions. A key part of this is growing the community for Eden Fractal and attracting new participants. There have been over one hundred participants, with about ten new participants from the Optimism Superchain ecosystem over the past few months.
Acknowledgements and Reflections
I greatly appreciate everyone’s support at the events, and it’s been a huge pleasure collaborating with you all. We’ve accomplished so much together in these first two years:
• Amazing anniversary events
• Building tools on three networks
• Fostering countless collaborations
• Inspiring dozens of fractal communities and leaders
• Creating hundreds of videos and educational content
• Carrying the torch of fractal democracy to create a better future
However, to achieve our mission, the community needs to grow and attract new participants, builders, and creators. Fractals are designed to work with thousands of participants, but our average attendance has decreased from about fifteen participants throughout the first year to about five participants over the past months. Optimism Fractal and the Superchain provide an onboarding opportunity to attract countless leaders to realize the benefits of fractal decision-making processes.
Regeneration and Future Plans
In order for Eden Fractal to grow, it needs to regenerate and be reborn into its next phase of development. This includes reflecting on what is working best and what should be improved, based on market demand and feedback. We plan to experiment with biweekly events upon the return of Eden Fractal and then expand to weekly events when the time is right, based on demand and market opportunities. We need to focus on what will be most helpful to achieve the mission of Eden Fractal. This includes focusing more on Optimism Fractal for the time being and serving as an example for fractals to follow.
Optimystics Office Hours
If there’s enough demand for in-person meetings and group discussions, I could also host an Optimystics office hours where we discuss similar topics as Eden Fractal but do so without the video production, promotion, and topic creation for events. Optimystics office hours would provide a place for discussions that won’t be produced and publicly shared. This is valuable as some people might prefer more private conversations and the ability to ask questions freely.
Returning to Weekly Schedule
After operating on a biweekly schedule for some time and assessing demand, we intend to return Eden Fractal to a weekly schedule and start playing the Respect Game at weekly events to measure contributions. During this time, I also plan to pursue funding opportunities throughout the EVM ecosystem to support builders and community leaders who implement fractal governance processes and report their progress at Eden Fractal events.
Announcements and Updates
Excited to announce new changes to Optimism Fractal, including the approval of a proposal to update its core intents, which includes governance and the Superchain. This announcement will be shared in Fractally chat and FractalJoy.
Add the proposal/suggestions for summer break to the promotional message that Rosmari sends out this week. Everyone is welcome to join the last events of the season and Optimism Fractal.
Rationale and Future Focus
I’ve discussed how it makes sense to focus more on Eden Fractal in the upcoming months because RetroFunding is focused on governance and the tools will be ready shortly for the Respect Game. However, I think it’s best to take more time off from Eden Fractal now. Optimism Fractal can make a bigger impact if it has more of the Optimystics’ attention.
Eden Fractal has already largely served its purpose in making an impact for this RetroFunding season, and we’ll make a bigger impact by focusing more on Optimism Fractal. By taking a 4-week summer break and returning biweekly, we’ll support Eden Fractal with the attention it needs to continue and prepare for its next stage of growth as more fractals sprout. This will also give more support to Optimism Fractal to become maximally successful in the Superchain and attract EVM builders.
One other option worth considering is going to monthly events for some time. Perhaps this could work better than biweekly? We could also do a longer break, like 6-8 weeks, and not decide on biweekly yet but play it by ear.
I’ve talked about how we should continue to do Eden Fractal at the same break as Optimism Fractal to keep it simple, but a 4-week and 2-week break is simple enough. This provides an opportunity for experimentation with the break schedule.
Closing Thoughts
Ultimately, this would mark the end of an era for Eden Fractal and the beginning of a new paradigm in which we make major strides towards collaborative implementation of fractal decision-making processes throughout society. Our vision is a world where all communities have the tools and methods for the best decision-making possible—fair, fast, and fun.
I’d be happy to discuss this at this week’s events and hear your thoughts. The journey ahead is promising, and with the planned changes, we are set to create a more impactful and vibrant fractal community. Let’s embrace this new phase with optimism and determination.
