Message EF about spring break

Hey all, hope you’re enjoying the week! Following our discussion about seasonal strategies last week, there are a few changes that I’d like to implement in Eden Fractal and would like to discuss at our upcoming event:

1. Initiate a seasonal structure for Eden Fractal where each season lasts about 8-12 weeks, followed by a two week break at the end of each season.
2. Take a two week spring break after our this week’s event to give everyone time to relax and prepare for the next season. This means that we would not meet on April 24th or May 1st.
3. Begin the 9th season of Eden Fractal on May 8th. Previously we didn’t count seasons, so I propose that we retroactively group our first 96 events into 8 seasons of 12 events each.

Going forward I propose that we align the seasons of Eden Fractal with the seasons of Optimism Fractal and Retro Funding, which makes sense because these are big opportunities for the Eden Fractal community and there are synergies in aligning these events on the same seasonal schedule. We’re not yet sure about the exact timing for Retro Funding but the post linked above provides a high level overview, so I think we should wait to hear the exact dates before setting the precise length of each season.

We also discussed a similar topic at last week’s Optimism Fractal event and are planning to adopt a similar seasonal schedule there, which you can learn more about in this post and discussion from last week’s Optimism Fractal event.

I know this is short notice, but I think we’ll make the most positive impact by moving quickly to align the seasons Eden Fractal with Optimism and taking short breaks at the end of each season will help us grow in a more dynamic, sustainable manner. Additionally, this seasonal structure will also help us attain the unstoppable momentum with periodic celebrations like we discussed in our 74th event and provide ample time for us to coordinate our two year anniversary like we started planning last week.

I’m curious to hear your thoughts about this and would appreciate feedback. For most of Eden Fractal’s existence we’ve used the Eden+Fractal consensus process to make collective decisions, but we haven’t elected a delegate in about 5 months so I’m not sure if this consensus process is still in effect. I’m not sure if I should make a proposal for these changes and/or just use my discretion as elected moderator and host to put changes into effect, but I’d really like to do this and hope that everyone will see the benefits.

At first I thought each season of Eden Fractal could always be 12 weeks, but now I’m thinking that it’s best to align Eden Fractal seasons with Retro Funding and Optimism Fractal as these provide excellent opportunities and we’re not yet sure about the exact schedule for Retro Funding.
