Respond to Tadas in Eden Fractal chat and Notion for Epoch 2

The main thing we offer is Respect Games
For less technical contributions it’s difficult to convey the work in four minutes as is.
For a couple days after reading your message I was thinking that it would be better to switch to biweekly Respect Games, but after thinking it over further. There are many benefits to biweekly Respect Games and I see your points about doing this for Optimism Fractal as well, but there are also many benefits to weekly Respect Games and ultimately I think that it’s best to keep
I think it’s best to experiment with the biweekly Respect Games at Eden Fractal for this season, then we can consider changing the cadence of Optimism Fractal Respect Games after Season 4 and we can always make this adjustment in the future if it seems like a good idea.
I think it’s best to continue a weekly schedule for Optimism Fractal
- We did weekly Respect Games for about two years from the start of Genesis Fractal to week 75 in Eden Fractal. For a few months I did 3x Respect Games a week at Eden Fractal, Genesis Fractal, and others like Alien Worlds Fractal. Several others did this as well. We know that there is a natural demand for Respect Games and we’ve benefited from experiencing this over the past couple years. I think that new participants should also have the same opportunity.
- Weekly Respect Games are tried and tested to be successful over the past 2.5 years, whereas biweekly are new. They will probably work quite well, though they might not be as effective at developing strong communities, allowing bonds to form, and providing other forms of value as weekly Respect Game. There’s a big difference in the amount of meeting time and a lot can happen during that weekly meeting that wouldn’t otherwise happen at biweekly meetings. There’s a lot of value to sticking with what works and not trying to fix what isn’t broken.
- If someone happens to be busy during a Respect Game, they don’t need to wait 2 weeks until the next one will occur. When there are longer breaks between events, it’s more likely that they could fall out of habit joining and the retention of participants may decrease. This can also make it easier for new participants to join, knowing that they can join within six days of learning about it.
- Will said that he likes the weekly cadence during last week’s Town Hall because it keeps him accountable, he enjoys seeing us, and looks forward to playing Respect Game each week. You can see from his presentation last week that he had more than enough things to share in one week.
- When we spoke to the Head of Marketing at Optimism she seemed impressed with the weekly events and want to collaborate with us. Offering Respect Games as a weekly service can provide more valuable for the Optimism Collective and Foundation, who may appreciate the ability refer people to Optimism Fractal events for onboarding and networking experiences.
- We offer so many services that can provide value and offering these services less frequently could hinder the amount of value we provide. For example, participants can enjoy networking, collaboration, awards, recognition, attention, and platform to share their thoughts. If Respect Game events are offered half as often, then it kind of follows that the amount of value that we can provide is roughly half as much. I don’t think it’s exactly half as much as I see your points that biweekly events can provide
- Half as many measurements at biweekly Respect Games would reduce the sample size by 2x. This is a significant reduction in any scientific experiment and could reduce the accuracy, legitimacy, and acceptance by evaluators like Badgeholders during Retro Funding Rounds
- People appreciate and respect hearing updates from developers even if there hasn’t been a major stride in which a new feature is completed. The ability to hear from developers, see their progress, and ask a question is very valuable for participants.
- We finally have new software that fixes many of the problems and provides benefits . Now it can be helpful to both test it more to find any bugs and
- Weekly events give us more natural opportunities to promote the Respect Game and make connections. The Respect Game is new to most people and having more opportunities to promote the Respect Game, connect with others, and attract people to events will likely increase the adoption of the Respect Game at this early stage of development.
- It’s not that difficult to host Respect Games. One of the main reasons that hosting 2 events has been so time consuming for Eden Creators is that we’ve been doing shows about new topics each week. This process requires choosing topics, writing topic proposals, promoting topics, creating custom artwork for topics, writing new messaging about topics, and otherwise exploring new terrains of thought while thinking about topics. This amount of novel work requires a lot of time, energy, and effort.
- It was valuable to have topics to provide special experiences for early stakeholders and helpful for us to think about these topics out loud in public as we’re organizing our thoughts, but now we’ve learned a lot of the needed foundations and it’s time to focus more on the Respect Game. We can save a lot time by putting less effort into unique topics and focusing more on Respect Games each week. We’ll put so much work into unique topics when it’s really beneficial to do so. This will allow us to make better experiences around the Respect Game and save a lot of time while still hosting weekly events.
