Eden Fractal Network History and Overview

Eden Fractal hosted it’s first official event on June 8th 2022, as you can see in the show notes for the first episode at EdenFractal.com/1. Prior to it’s official launch there were also a series of unofficial community meetings for about a month to initiate Eden Fractal’s launch.

Since it’s launch, Eden Fractal has its own unique blockchain account and non-transferrable token called EDEN on the EOS blockchain. This token has been earned by 77 contributors by participating at Eden Fractal events between May 2022 and January 2024, most of whom have never participated at Optimism Fractal Respect Game events.

This token was earned exclusively by participants at events with an earlier iteration of the fractal consensus process called Eden+Fractal, which was a predecessor that inspired the Respect Game that is now played at Optimism Fractal. The purpose of the process was to experiment with the process and achieve the mission that was emerging at Eden Fractal's for implementing fractal decision making processes, though the community was still in the process of forming it’s mission and didn’t form consensus on a mission until early 2024.

Eden Fractal had custom software developed on the EOS blockchain for smart contracts (as you can see in this repo) and learn more about in this article. Shortly after the Optimystics team launched Optimism Fractal in October 2023, Eden Fractal transitioned to stop experimenting with the Eden+Fractal consensus process and stop issuing its own token on the EOS blockchain, and change its event structure to topics selected by the community, focusing on mission, vision, strategy, and implementation of strategy at its events.⁠

Since late 2023, Eden Fractal has focused on implementing fractal decision-making processes throughout society by supporting their development and adoption on the Superchain. Over the past few months, the community has been in the process of migrating to Base as part of its Eden Fractal Epoch 2 initiative.⁠⁠

This rich history demonstrates the unique role in Eden Fractal's pioneering of fractal governance processes and separation clearly from OF Respect Games. These are two independent communities and events that exist independently of each other.

Eden Fractal was founded in May 2022 as a pioneering community focused on developing better ways for groups to make decisions. Over 110 educational events and countless collaborations later, we've grown into a vibrant hub for governance innovation, particularly within the Optimism ecosystem.

Looking Forward

As the Optimism ecosystem grows, Eden Fractal continues to provide essential educational infrastructure for scaling governance processes. Our mission remains focused on implementing fractal decision-making throughout society, with particular emphasis on supporting the Superchain's evolution.

The initial concept for fractal democracy was created by Daniel Larimer, a visionary innovator who interacted with Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009 and invented the concept of DACs (aka DAOs) as Decentralized Autonomous Companies in 2013. Daniel is a prolific founder who created the world’s first decentralized exchange (Bitshares), the first stablecoin (BitUSD), the first Web3 social media app (steemit/hive), and designed the software for the largest ICO of all time (EOS).

Each of these projects were among the world’s most successful blockchain projects for a period of time and continue to grow today with decentralized, autonomous communities of countless talented builders. These innovations provided immense inspiration for industry leaders and paved the path for the largest sectors of Web3 today.
